New High School Schedule
When students arrive Sept. 7 for the first day of school at Crescent Valley and Corvallis high schools, they will be greeted with a new class schedule – one that allows them to sleep a little later in the morning, enjoy an earlier lunch and seek extra help from their teachers if they’re struggling in class.
The new schedule was developed by a committee of educators, counselors, administrators, parents and community members committed to finding a more effective way of using instructional time to boost the academic achievement for all students. The committee spent a year studying the schedules and strategies used by distinguished, high-achieving high schools throughout the country. They also gathered input from high school staff, students and parents to help them design a new schedule that would address people’s preferences and concerns, but that would benefit student learning and help them meet more rigorous academic standards.
As seen below, the new schedule offers a variety of class configurations and provides an Academic Options period four days of the week for academic interventions, enrichment or personal study time. The schedule also gives teachers 65 minutes a week to collaborate together as Professional Learning Communities about how to best serve the needs of their students.

A New High School Schedule brochure (en español) will be mailed with final grade reports for students in grades 8-11 to explain more about the rationale behind changing the schedule and the advantages it offers. A Few Key Reminders:
ü School does not start for students until 8:15 a.m. every day, except for Wednesdays
ü On Wednesdays, students don’t report to class until 9:15 a.m.
ü Students are dismissed from school at 3:50 p.m. each day
ü More options are available to students to take some classes in 45-minute periods or in 90-minute blocks
ü New bus schedules will be available in mid-August
