Reading:
We will start September with a pilot of a new reading series. We
will work with this for 6 weeks, then trade to a second pilot. I will
involve the students in the evaluation of the materials. After that, we
will read novels or materials at each child's level.
Math: We will begin with measurement. Students will learn to use their measuring tools. We have a general outline of math topics available for parents if you are interested. Students will also work on basic math facts.
Spelling and Writing: We will be working on spelling and writing assignments in the pilot. I also intend to have the students create a book to give to the hospital for their maternity ward. (More info will follow in the newsletters).
Social Studies, Science, and Health: We will be learning about ourselves and setting goals in September. We also will be studying the regions of the U.S. with our new Social Studies texts. In Science we will start with the history of flight and Astronomy. We are planning a field trip to the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville.
