September 2007

Welcome

Our classroom is not ready once again. Go ahead and get mad. I did. Now I'm over it and I'm planning on making the best of a bad situation. We will meet in the library the first week. The second week we will go to OSU each day and hold class there. The school district is providing transportation by bus each day. We are told that construction will be done Sept. 22. Over the weekend we hope to move in and get things ready for students on the 25th. This is frustrating to say the least. Please bear with us through these tough times.

Changes
Lori accepted an administrative job with another district. We will miss her. She has been searching for a principle job and we are happy for her. Paul will be teaching half time and will take care of assessment and testing and technology half time. Janice Rosenberg will teach half time here and half time at OSU. Janice is a master teacher with extensive experience and amazing ideas for field studies. Rachael Fraley will be a full time teacher. She is a new teacher who has excellent training and tons of energy. Hailey is our student teacher this term. She was with us last year also. She is an excellent teacher with an even better attitude. Without Hailey we would be so far behind.
This is an amazing team. The talent pool is pretty deep. Our program will be stronger because of these incredible people.

Schedule
Check out the link on our web page. You can get an idea of our schedule. The red and blue teams are equal groups of students. Each group will meet with Janice for a series of lessons while I meet with the other group in the afternoon. Then we will switch groups and teach those lessons again. Rachael will meet with each of these groups and teach social studies. Literacy classes will be split into one 6th grade group and one 7-8 group. Math will be split into three groups. Math will be our first subject of the day.
Wednesday will be our field study day. Keep a look out for those permission slips. We are required to have one for every trip.

Math PE
We have new math and PE teachers. PE and music will be required subjects for all students.

Electives
Our elective choices ,so far, are drama, sewing, Spanish, art, study hall, and teacher aid. Electives will probably not begin until we get our classroom. If any parents have other great ideas for electives please contact us. Those students who are having trouble turning in work on time may be required to take a study hall for at least one elective.
