Using Data to Guide Instruction

TESA-OAKS
Access to your class data

1. Go to the school district site or follow this link. https://www.oaks.k12.or.us/reports/Login.aspx
2. Login using your full email address password. You were sent a password in an email message from Oaks-Tesa. If you forgot your password click on the link to get a new one.
3.On the right hand side of the page click on the school year and grade level that you want to view. If you have multiple grade levels just choose one grade and you will be able to choose more levels later.
4. Click on your name from the list of teacher names. You will be directed to another page.
5. Click on your group name.
6. If you teach multiple grade levels you will see tabs of data for each grade level.
7. You may print the data or export it.

OSAT Data

 

Class Average for Total Reading, Present Year:

  1. Open the Student Information System (SIS)
  2. Select the Teacher’s Menu
  3. Click on OSAT – Scores by Subject
  4. Select Lincoln from the drop-down menu next to the word Building
  5. If you are a 4th or 5th grade teacher, select your name from the drop-down menu next to the word Teacher OR if you teach K-3, or a special area, select grade 4 or 5 from the drop-down menu next to the word Grade.
  6. Select Reading from drop-down menu next to the word Area.
  7. Leave the Subtest box blank.
  8. Click Preview Report
  9. Click to page two on the bar in the bottom left corner
  10. Find the Teacher Average Scores row at the bottom of the page. Look for the average score in the Total column. Record the class average for total reading for the present year on the recording sheet 

          

Class Average for Total Reading, Past Year:

1.      Click on OSAT – Scores by Subject.

2.      Click to check the box next to View Last Year’s Class List.

3.      Follow steps 4-12 above.

4.      Record class average for total reading for the past year on the recording sheet.

 

Lowest & Highest Subtest Areas for a Class or Grade Level:

  1. Use the reports generated for class average above to find the average scores for each of the sub-tests in reading. Record the sub-test areas that are the weakest and the strongest for the present year and the past year on the recording sheet.

 

Grouping Student Information by Does Not Meet, Meets, & Exceeds for Total Reading

  1. Click on OSAT – Scores by Subject.
  2. Select Lincoln from the drop-down menu next to the word Building.
  3. If you are a 4th or 5th grade teacher, select your name from the drop-down menu next to the word Teacher, OR if you teach K-3, or a special area, select grade 4 or 5 from the drop-down menu next to the word Grade.
  4. Select Reading from drop-down menu next to the word Area.
  5. Select Total Read from the drop-down menu next to Subtest.
  6. Check the box next to Sort by Score.
  7. Click on Preview Report.
  8. Record the names of the students not meeting in Total Reading on the Recording Sheet.

Grouping Student Information by Does Not Meet, Meets, & Exceeds for Subtest Scores

  1. Repeat steps 1-4 from directly above.
  2. Find the lowest subtest score from the Recording Sheet. Select this subtest area from the Subtest drop-down menu.
  3. Check the box next to Sort by Score.
  4. Click Preview Report.
  5. On the recording sheet, write the names of students not meeting in the selected subtest area.
  6. Repeat for each low subtest area.

 

For individual student data, use the Student Assessment Report

  1. Open the Student Information System (SIS).
  2. Select the Teacher’s Menu.
  3. Click on Assessment Report.
  4. Select Building, Teacher and Student from the drop-down menus.
  5. Click Preview Report.

 

Use ODE Test Specifications at Benchmark 1 or 2 to help in making instructional decisions for those students not meeting a subtest category.

Logging Into the Reports Website

  1. Open up the following website in your web browser: https://reports.nwea.org/login.asp
  2. Use the login information you get from your building MAP support staff member to log into the reports website.

Viewing a Teacher Report

  1. On the left bar, click on Teacher Reports.
  2. Select the Term (Fall 2004) from the drop-down lists and click Submit.
  3. On the recording sheet write the names of students with scores below the 25th%ile and above the 90th%ile.
  4. On the recording sheet write the names of students who scored in the LO range in each subtest category.

Viewing an Individual Student Report

  1. On the left bar, click on Class Rosters
  2. Select the term (Fall 2004) and class from the drop-down lists.
  3. Click Submit.
  4. Select the comparison period to show the student's growth.
  5. Select the type of report to generate (text, graph, or both).
  6. Scroll about half-way down the page. Click on the class name.
  7. Click on a student’s name to generate a student progress report.

 Viewing the Class in Groups by RIT Scores

  1. On the left bar, click on Class by RIT
  2. Select the term (Fall 2004) and class from the drop-down lists.
  3. Click Submit.

 Viewing the Grade in Groups by RIT Scores

  1. On the left bar, click on Grade by Subject
  2. Select the term (Fall 2004), subject (reading), and grade.
  3. Select Test RIT for the Sort Order.
  4. Click Submit.
  5. To print, click on PDF Acrobat iconCreate PDF Report.

 Accessing the Learning Continuum:

  1. Open the following website: http://www.nwea.org/tools/lc/index.asp
  2. Use the login and password information you receive from your building MAP support person to log into the website.

 

Goal Score Translation Chart: This chart is useful in translating the Hi, Av, and Lo goal scores from the NWEA class report. This attached chart equates the grade level to the MAP RIT scores.

 

OSAT to MAP RIT Scores Comparison Document: This attached document, NWEA RIT Score Equivalents to Oregon Department of Education RIT Scores, is used to compare the OSAT RIT scores to MAP RIT scores.

  6. Lexiled Book Search – Find the Lexile measure of a book. Open the Lexile Framework for Reading website, http://www.ode.state.or.us/teachlearn/subjects/elarts/reading/literacy/lexiles/ and click on Lexiled Book Search.
  7. Lexile Analyzer – Submit any document to the Lexile Analyzer to get its Lexile level. There is a sample paragraph of text in the Lexile folder on the Public (N) drive. Open the Lexile Framework for Reading website, http://www.ode.state.or.us/teachlearn/subjects/elarts/reading/literacy/lexiles/ and click on Lexile Analyzer.

·        Save your file as a text document with a .txt extension. When saving a Word document, select “Plain Text” from the Save as type box.

·        Open the following website: http://educators.lexile.com/tools/lexileanalyzer.aspx

·        Login with the information you get from your building MAP support person:

·        Click on the Browse button and find the text file you saved. Select the file and click Open.

·        Click on the Analyze button.

·        The Lexile Analyzer Results will be displayed.
