Welcome to Mrs. Brewer’s Kindergarten! |

|
Welcome to Mountain View School. I am glad to be returning to this beautiful rural setting after four years at other schools in the district. I am looking forward to teaching your children this year. The following information is to inform you briefly about the curriculum, structure and routines for our kindergarten class this year. More information on school and district policies can be found in the Student Handbook.
Snacks We will be having snack each day at school. The children will help prepare the snacks and serve and eat them family style. To ensure healthy and when possible curriculum related snacks I ask that parents sign up to purchase the snacks from our shopping list and bring them in two weeks during the school year. I will have a sign up sheet available curriculum night for this purpose.
Appropriate Dress Because we are physically active and tend to occasionally get messy, please help your child to dress appropriately. Comfortable clothes that may “get dirty” are best. Girls wearing skirts or dresses may feel more comfortable sitting at group cross legged if they also wear a pair of shorts underneath. PE will be on Tuesdays. Please help your child to wear safe shoes, rubber soles and close toed shoes that fit are best.
School Day The school day begins at 8:15am. If children arrive earlier than 8:10am they may wait with friends in the school library. I will escort them to the classroom at 8:10am. If your child arrives at school later than 8:15am please stop by the office and sign him/her in for the day. School is out at 11:10am I will walk all the children to the west side of the school. First, I will deliver the bus riders to their respective bus, then I will walk those children being picked up by parents to the front of the busses at the entrance to the parking lot. You are welcome to stay in your car and drive up one at a time or park in the lot and meet us. Please help your child to be safe by asking permission to be excused from me. This way we can make sure to have a safe transfer of your child to you.

Parent Volunteers Parent Volunteers make a huge difference in the learning experience of the children in the classroom. The depth of activities and individual attention is fostered by parents and relatives volunteering. Activities for volunteering are both in and out of the classroom. Please see the Volunteer Form in this weeks folder if you are interested in helping in our class. If you do choose to help in the classroom or on a field trip please check with the school office to complete a district volunteer information form before beginning.
Communication We have a very helpful system here at Mt. View. A group of hard working dedicated parents prepare and sort all the communication from the school district, community and school into individual folders each week. These folders go home with children on Fridays and need to be returned on Monday. One side is information and the other side has information you may need to sign and return. Our classroom newsletter and communication will be printed on yellow paper for easy identification and hopefully placed in the front of the folder. I will attempt to send home a newsletter every 2 to 3 weeks letting you know of changes in curriculum focus and reminding you of up-coming events.
Email is the best way to communicate with me. I check my email each morning. My address is Jeanette.Brewer@Corvallis,K12.or.us. I can also be reached by phone from 7:45 to 8:10am at 766-4779. I do not answer the phone during the school day as it disrupts my opportunity to work with your children. It may take me a day or two to respond to communication from you, thanks for your patience. Notes from home are also great, they sometimes do not get delivered though. If your child will not be attending school please contact the school at 766-4760. You can leave a message at any time on the attendance line, you do not have to wait until school is in session.
I am looking forward to a great year. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Mrs. Brewer |
