Forum to Provide Open Venue for Community Input into K-12 Education in Corvallis
January 22, 2007 04:48 PM
The Corvallis Community Vision for Education process advances with a community forum on Thursday January 25. This facilitated forum is an open opportunity for any community member to provide valuable input about the future of Corvallis School District.
In November 2006, the Corvallis School District launched a process to identify the community’s collective vision of quality education for our students. The goal of the Corvallis Community Vision for Education is to identify what the community values and to align the targets for student outcomes with those values.
Since the process began, facilitations have taken place with teachers, parents, business leaders, and community members. To ensure that all Corvallis community members have the opportunity to contribute, the district has planned an open-to-the-public community forum. This forum provides an occasion for all community members to give their input regarding learning opportunities and goals for graduates.
The community forum is scheduled for Thursday, January 25 at 6:00-8:30 p.m., at Linus Pauling Middle School. The district is working to obtain representation from the various stakeholder groups and make sure that those groups previously under-represented have a voice in the process. The diversity of input helps ensure well-rounded recommendations. Instead of operating like a traditional meeting, discussions about the Community Vision for Education are facilitated to engage all participants and efficiently gather input.
This is a wonderful opportunity for any Corvallis resident to give their input on the future of our schools. The Corvallis School District hopes that the news of the event is spread across the community to ensure maximum attendance.
Another great way to contribute to the Community Vision for Education is through the online survey. To participate, visit the website at www.360eval.com/login and enter the login code “CorvallisVision” (all one word).
The initial findings of the community’s vision will be shared in a public forum scheduled for Tuesday, March 13 at 6:00-9:00 p.m., at Corvallis High School. The forum will also provide an opportunity for community members to give feedback on the emerging themes. In May 2007, a Synthesizing Group of representative staff and community members will present the findings and unveil its newly formed vision and mission along with a set of recommendations for the future of our schools.
