Free dental screenings offered to high schoolers

January 5, 2009 12:51 PM

Free dental screenings will be available to students at Crescent Valley High School on Jan. 9 and at Corvallis High School on Jan. 16.

The screenings were organized by Dr. Ken Johnson, a local retired dentist and will be conducted by volunteer dentists and school district nurses during students' open periods.

Students without dental insurance or whose families are currently experiencing financial difficulties are especially invited to take part in the voluntary screenings. Students will be given a quick exam to determine if they have any visible tooth decay or complaints of dental pain. If further dental treatment is needed, a district nurse will contact parents to let them know about free dental services available within the community for students who qualify.

Families with other children between the ages of 5 and 18 who are not covered by dental insurance are encouraged to contact Corvallis School District nurse Mardi Henke for information about other free dental programs within the district. She can be reached by calling 740-5466.
