Presidents Day will be a school day

Schools in the Corvallis School District will be open on Feb. 16 (Presidents Day) to make up for one of the school days lost during the week of Dec. 15-19 due to snow closures. The date appears on the 2008-09 school calendar as a non-school day for students and school staff, but the district had always reserved the day as a possible snow make-up day.
“Our kids have seen the loss of instructional time due to bad weather several times over the past few years. With the budget forecast as it is, I’m concerned about scheduling adjustments that might need to be made that would further impact the time students have in the classroom so it seems wise to go ahead and make up at least part of what was lost during the last week of school in December,” said superintendent Dawn Tarzian.
District officials are still considering whether to delay the end of the school year to replace the other two days that school was canceled due to inclement weather last month.
