June 11, 2009 12:48 PM

If it only takes a few weeks for your child to get bored once school is out, you might want to look into one of several youth camps our local schools are sponsoring this summer. Some will focus on sports, others on music or drama. Most are open to a variety of ages.

Here is a list in chronological order:

CHS Theater Camp – Students headed into second through the 12th grade can participate in a series of hands on classes at the CHS Black Box Theatre to learn more about acting, music theater, dance, basic acrobatics, basic stage combat, playwriting, pantomime and voice. The camps will run for two weeks with half-day and full-day options available for second through eighth grade from June 29 to July 10 and July 13-24. The camp for high school students is all day from July 27 to Aug. 7. Registration fees range from $125 to $225, including a daily snack and a camp T-shirt; multi-child discounts and some scholarships are available. Click here for more information.

Youth Summer Band Camp – Mid-valley band musicians who have had at least one year’s experience are welcome to attend this annual camp July 20-23 in the Corvallis High School band room. The four evening rehearsals (6 to 8 p.m.) will be followed by four 45-minute performances on July 24, July 25, July 27 and on July 29 at the Benton County Fair. The cost is $75. Click here for more information.

CVHS Dance Team Clinic – Crescent Valley High School’s dance team, Radiance, will host a dance camp for ages 5 and up July 27-29 at Cheldelin Middle School. Campers will meet from 9 to 11:30 a.m. each morning to learn dance technique and prepare for a culminating performance July 29 at the Benton County Fair. The $35 registration fee includes daily snacks, a camp T-shirt and one-day admission to the fair. Registration is due by June 30; call 738-7464 for information.

CHS/CVHS Sports Camps – Multiple youth sports camps for all ages will take place at both high schools during the summer including baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, volleyball and cheerleading. The first camps begin June 15 and the last is set for Aug. 18-21. Registration fees range from $45 to $60.
