Three students each from Corvallis and Crescent Valley high schools have been selected as candidates for the United States Presidential Scholars Program -- Jennifer L. Flannery (CHS), Andrea L. Higdon (CVHS), Erin J. Shear (CHS), Laurel V. Weibezahn (CVHS), Josh R. Woods (CHS), and Evan Wu (CVHS).
The Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964 to recognize and honor some of the nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. Only 46 students from the state of Oregon were chosen as candidates.
Each year, up to 141 students are named as Presidential Scholars, one of the nation's highest honors for high school students. The majority of candidates are chosen as Presidential Scholars based on their broad academic achievement. Approximately 20 additional students are selected on the basis of their academic and artistic scholarship in the visual arts, the performing arts, or creative writing.
Presidential Scholars are named in April and are honored for their accomplishments in June in Washington, D.C.
