There will be a parents meeting for the Washington DC trip on Thursday, Nov. 20th, 5:30 PM in the Ava Helen Pauling Auditorium.

Come and play recreational basketball with your friends through the Parks & Recreation Department basketball program.  Practices are only one day per week at the school with games on Saturdays.  Learn the game, have fun and be with your classmates.  Come to the office for a flyer with more information.

Attention!  There will be no school October 29, 30, & 31, November 10 & 11.  When school’s out theatre’s in.  Join the Majestic Education for fun day camps at the theatre!  Ages 6-12 from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM for $30.00 for a full day.  Information and pre-registration are available at www.majestic.org or call 753-0284.

There will be a Scholastic Chess Tournament on Saturday, Nov 8th at Cheldelin Middle School.  Registration forms are available in the office.

This is the 7th year for the “Dollar$, Not Decay” campaign.  You have the opportunity to trade your Halloween candy for cash.  On November 1st, take your Halloween candy to the office of Kurt Black at 2356 NW Professional Drive in Corvallis and get $2.00 for every pound of candy.  And you will receive a free toothbrush.

 The LPMS cross country team would like to invite all students and staff to the inaugural Corvallis Middle School Cross Country Championship at beautiful Avery Park on Tuesday.  Come cheer on the Pride as they take on Cheldelin, Franklin, and Santiam Christian schools.  The girls race is at 4:15, boys at 4:45.

The Boys and Girls of Corvallis invites all High school and Middle school students to a Haunted Maze and Movie event tomorrow from 6 – 9 pm. Admission $3.00  Pizza slice and medium drink will cost an additional $2.00.  Please no face paint or masks  The movie Pet Cemetery will be shown.

Today is the last day to turn in your list of books that you read over the summer.  If you read 10 or more books over the summer please bring your signed list to the library by the end of school today!

The library is now open for students to come in and check out library books and read quietly.  We will open around 8:30 before school and during break.  Lunchtime depends on parent volunteers.  Today the library will be open during lunch for quiet reading or studying.

Interested students please come to a meeting about forming a Lego Robotics Team at Linus Pauling on Monday Sept 15th at 3:30 PM in the LPMS Library. Lego Robotics is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. (Students must be 14 years of age or younger on Jan 1st 2008). In the past there have been two teams, with up to 10 students on each team.  Hopefully we will be able to do this again. There is a sign up sheet in the office where students can put their names down if interested.

The library will be open for student and class use beginning on Monday.  The library will open around 8:30 before school and during break for students to come in to read or work quietly.  The library will also be open at lunchtime when we have a parent supervisor.  At this time we have parent volunteers for Monday and Thursday.  If you want the library open at lunchtime please help me find parents to supervise!

Last year we made over $18,000!!!  The money we raised helped pay for field trips, science equipment, classroom supplies, the track program, art classes, and more!!  This is our ONLY fundraiser at Linus Pauling, so let’s get ready to help our school!!  See you all at the assemblies this Wednesday for the Kick-off of the 2008 Magazine and Direct Donation Drive !

Do you like to run? There will be a Linus Pauling cross country team this fall coached by Mr. Behrens of Adams School and assisted by Mr. Rose and Ms. Rumage.  Practices will be Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:50 starting with a run and meeting on September 9.   See Mr. Rose for more information.

Some folks say that Friday is the best day of the week, but NEXT Friday, September 12th, is going to be a great day. Do you like to run? There will be a Linus Pauling cross country team this fall coached by Mr. Behrens of Adams School and assisted by Mr. Rose and Ms. Rumage.  Practices will be Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:50 starting with a run and meeting on September 9.   See Mr. Rose for more information.

Hey Students--If anyone is interested in working in the kitchen at breakfast or lunch time please come see Mrs. Hunter in the kitchen we could use some help at serving time.

Were you in the mooo’d to read this summer? If you read 10 or more books over the summer you can get a prize! Turn in the titles of the books you read, signed by a parent to Ms. Miranda in the library by 9/15.
