Explanations for PTA Events and Fundraisers

The following describes some of our school activities.  These are great ways for you to become involved with the Wilson community.

PTA SPONSORED EVENTS:

Art and Science Fair:  The kids can choose to do an art or a science project individually and may also do one with their class.

Artist in Residence:  Several artists share their skills throughout the school year .

Assemblies:  A variety of entertaining and informative presentations are brought to Wilson.

Back-To-School Picnic: Held at the start of the school year, this is your chance to get your Wilson Wildcat shirt, bring a picnic dinner, meet other students, staff, and parents, and enjoy Wildcat Park.

The Big Sign:  Some hardy person keeps the school events on the big sign board at the front of Wilson updated.

Book Exchange:  Bring in your gently used books and your child will bring different ones home.

Carnival: Games, food, and lots of fun.  In past years, there have been special features such as a dunk tank and a cake walk.

Field Day:  On the last day of school, kids get a chance to play games like tug-o-war, run an obstacle course and fish for marbles with their toes.  The 5th graders play beach ball volleyball against the teachers and at the end, the kids ceremoniously move up a grade.

First Day Principal's Chat:  This is held at 8:15 a.m. in the Wilson library on the first day of school.  Parents can meet the Principal and get an update on the upcoming school year.

Kindergarten Ice Cream Social:  Held before school starts, the Ice Cream Social is an informal orientation for students and parents new to Wilson School.  Kindergarten teachers will be on hand to welcome incoming Kindergarteners.

Operation Wilson:  A program to provide aid to students and parents.  Please ask in the office.

Principal’s Coffee:  Held every 2nd Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. in the Wilson library, this is a great time to find out what’s new at Wilson as well as to ask questions and talk over any concerns.

Room Parents and Coordinator:  Help keep the parents in your classroom up to date as well as find volunteers for upcoming events.

Safety Patrol:  Money is put toward an end of the year party for the safety patrol.  These students arrive before school early and in all kinds of weather to see their fellow students safely across both Satinwood and Walnut.

Slide show:  At the end of the year, come and see Wilson at work and play all year!

Sock Hop:  Very popular in recent years, the Sock Hop is a great time for kids and parents alike.  Dig out your poodle skirt, slick back that hair and dance to 50's tunes.

Staff Appreciation:  Parents coordinate to surprise the staff with lunch or snacks.

Teacher Request:

TV Turn-off Week:  One week, TV free.  Can you do it?  We’ll help with suggestions and activities.

Volunteer Appreciation:  This is a way to recognize volunteers throughout the year.

Wellness Committee:  A committee that works to support healthy habits for Wilson students and families.

Wilson Connections:  This program connects new families with parents who have been at Wilson for a while and can make you  feel welcome.

PTA FUNDRAISERS:

Auction Baskets:  Each classroom collects themed items to put into baskets and sell at the Carnival.

Book Fair: Come shop at the Scholastic Book fair for books, gifts and toys. Good deals are abundant, and the proceeds go to the Wilson library.

Campbell’s Labels:  These labels are collected in the office.

Class Note Cards:  This is a chance to buy note cards with your child’s artwork on it.

Donations Coordinator:  One person keeps track of donations to Wilson.

Fun Run: This is the main PTA fund raiser.  Students get pledges and run laps in the gym.

Rummage and Bake Sale:  Clean out your jam packed storage spaces and bring your treasures to the  rummage sale.  Eat a brownie for Wilson.

Scrip:  Scrip is a program in which parents, teachers, staff, family members, and friends of Wilson School buy pre-paid shopping cards at face value while supporting the school at the same time.
