Today, the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) released results from the Oregon Statewide Assessment System’s (OSAS) spring 2026 assessment. These results show that our students continue to outperform state averages.

The state summative tests include English Language Arts, Math, and Science. Students in grades 3-8, as well as 11, participate in English language arts and math tests. Science assessments are administered in grades 5, 8, and 11. The Oregon Department of Education Student Assessment webpage provides more information on the summative tests.

In addition to our local assessment, STAR Reading and Math, and OSAS results, our district uses these data to identify differences in student group outcomes and to inform education planning and decision-making to prioritize funds, resources, and support for our students.

“We have a long history of outperforming state averages,” said Superintendent Ryan Noss. “At the same time, the practices in our classrooms need to continue to advance.  Information at the state level helps to affirm that we are moving in the right direction. We continue to support our educators to implement strategies aligned with the Science of Reading and deeper discussions in mathematics.”

Early Literacy Grant

The Corvallis School District is a recipient of the Oregon Early Literacy Success School District Grant. This funding is being used to boost and enhance our high-quality literacy instruction and interventions, empowering students to become stronger readers and writers. As of 2026, 121 licensed staff members have participated in university-level coursework and training in the Science of Reading, including 90% of K-2 teachers and all intervention specialists. For the 26-27 school year, the district is offering professional learning on the Science of Reading to a cohort of classified staff members.

Math Proficiency

Data from a statewide survey of students’ classroom experiences shows that students with more opportunities to engage in math discussions are more likely to be proficient on the state assessment. The Corvallis School District focuses on math instruction that emphasizes class discussion and a deeper understanding of math concepts.
