Car Donations for CVHS Autos Class

Starting this fall, Crescent Valley students have the option to take Autos 1 at their home school, rather than travelling to Corvallis High for class. The Autos Program is part of the CVHS engineering/CTE Department and taught by Greg Nicol. The program is designed to align with CHS Autos 1 so that CV students can matriculate to the Autos 2 program at CHS. In order to get this hands-on program operating at full speed, CV is seeking 6-8 donated cars.

One car has been donated and two have been pledged. The ideal number of cars is ten. A variety of makes and models are needed and the donation may be tax deductible. The vehicle donation must come with the title and a set of keys. There are some donation requirements including the title transfer to the Corvallis School District within three days of delivery. “We don’t want any cars that are too nice,” notes Nicol. “Any complete car would be a welcome addition to our program.”

Students will start with safety and tool identification and then will work through each system of the cars. By the end of the term, students will be able to identify parts of the car and understand cooling systems, tires, wheels, wheel bearings, brakes, suspension, and the engine.

“Ten years ago as a CV student, I was lucky enough to get into the CHS Autos class,” said Nicol. With the skills he gained in Autos class, Nicol paid his way through college by buying, fixing, and selling cars. “We know that there is more than one way to make a living in the world and this is a great pathway for students. We want to build a program where you can work with your hands and develop some real-world skills.”
