School Buses Delayed Due to Nationwide Bus Driver Shortage

The Corvallis School District is currently experiencing an extreme bus driver shortage, an issue that is occurring nationwide. Because of the shortage, students and families may be experiencing longer bus rides, buses arriving early or late, and sporadic cancellations with short notice. While we are working to address this issue as quickly and efficiently as possible, there are additional considerations that need to be addressed to continue keeping our students safe during COVID-19.

We are working closely with Student Transportation of America to develop alternative solutions, such as combining routes at multiple schools and reducing the number of bus stops along certain routes. Many changes, such as combined elementary and high school routes, have already gone into effect.

Additionally, vaccination requirements for all K-12 employees, including bus drivers, go into effect on October 18, 2021. While we are hopeful this will not impact our ability to continue service, we want to create flexibility within our system to prepare for the future. We are working towards centralized high school stops which will require students to walk further to access school buses. Families will be notified before these additional changes go into effect.

If you have any questions or concerns about your student’s bus route, please contact our Facilities & Transportation department at 541-757-5877. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to work towards resolving this issue.
