Corvallis Hybrid Students to Return to Classrooms Starting in March

Superintendent Ryan Noss announced last week that students will return to in-person school following a Hybrid model the week of March 8, starting with kindergarteners and adding grade levels each week. All schools will be required to follow the Oregon Department of Education’s Ready Schools, Safe Learners guidance which included more than 160 specific health and safety protocols and procedures. Drivers are reminded to take care in their own neighborhoods, by bus stops, and in school zones and keep an eye out for students and families.

“We have been planning and looking forward to bringing students back to the classroom since last September,” shared Noss. “Once Governor Brown changed the county metrics from mandatory to advisory for schools, we began to closely evaluate our metrics with our partners at the Benton County Health Department. We are pleased to move forward to return students to our buildings this spring.”

Hybrid students who opt to attend on-site will learn online AND will continue their learning two days each week on-site. Families also have the option for their child to remain in fully remote learning for the rest of the school year. Individual schools are sharing those schedules with families.

This schedule allows school staff to see students online four days per week, providing continuity of instruction. “Bringing students back on-site is a high priority,” shared Noss. “For the last year, we have been working to maintain strong connections with students, and getting kids into the classroom will allow us to reconnect and extend the learning that is taking place online.”

Corvallis schools and the district administration building will be open for students but remain closed to visitors. While doors remains locked for walk-in visitors, parents/guardians and members of the community can call school offices or ring the doorbell for in-person assistance.

All students and staff entering district buildings will be required to be COVID symptom-free, wear a mask covering the nose and mouth, and use hand sanitizer. All Corvallis School District staff will be following the safety protocols outlined in the Operational Blueprint required by the Oregon Department of Education and Oregon Health Authority.
