National School Lunch Week

To recognize the National School Lunch Program and the hundreds of children it serves every day, Corvallis schools will recognize National School Lunch Week from October 9-13, 2017. The theme, “Recipes for Success” is an opportunity to showcase the variety of healthy foods we serve, including veggie chili with golden cornbread, homemade pizza, which is made with local flour and topped with local vegetables, and the chicken caesar bacon wrap. All entrées come with an endless salad bar featuring local fruits and vegetables.

National School Lunch Week is a time to celebrate the healthy foods that are offered daily in Corvallis schools. Parents are always welcome to join their children to experience our flavorful and fresh lunches. “School lunches are healthier than ever, with more fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and less fat and sodium,” said Sharon Gibson, Director of Food and Nutrition Services. “National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all the benefits of our lunch program, and the appealing choices we offer.”

Tasting Tables, which feature the local Harvest of the Month, give our students an opportunity to experience new fresh and local foods. We have received both national and state recognition for our Farm to School Program, a successful partnership with the Corvallis Environmental Center.  Our Food and Nutrition Services Department takes great pride in working with local farms to provide our students the best food possible.

The federally-funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides nutritionally balanced, healthy meals to students every day. The program, which has been serving the nation’s children for over 60 years, requires school meals to meet federal nutrition standards like offering fruits and vegetables every day, serving whole grain-rich foods, and limiting fat, calories, and sodium. To find out about eligibility requirements for the Free and Reduced Priced Meal Program or for more information about school meals in our district visit the Food and Nutrition Services Department page HERE.
