District Launches Home Visit Pilot Program

The Corvallis School District was recently awarded a grant to improve the transition into kindergarten for students in our community.  One component of that grant includes implementing a home visit program.  This year, we will be piloting a home visit project for students who will be entering kindergarten for the 2019-20 school year. Amy Lesan, CSD Elementary Teaching & Learning Coordinator, will oversee the program.

“Home visit programs have recently been in the news as a successful method to increase family-school relationships and student success,” said Ms. Lesan. “This pilot program aligns with our district’s commitment to equity and ensuring a successful start in school for our youngest students.”  The Oregon Joint Committee on Student Success Guidance provides several recommendations that are informing the district’s launch of the pilot program. The pilot program will take place in four schools and will help the district to review the potential for successful implementation across the district. Additional information about home visits can be found from the Parent Teacher Home Visit Non-Profit website at http://www.pthvp.org/
