District Prepares to Launch 2018-19 School Year

All Corvallis School District staff were welcomed to the 2018-19 school year on Wednesday, August 29 at an all staff professional development day at Crescent Valley High School. The event traditionally includes a welcome from the superintendent and the school board, the Oregon School Employees Association, and the Corvallis Education Association. This year’s event also offered a staff wellness fair and full day schedule of professional development sessions for staff.

Throughout the day, more than 500 staff attended suicide prevention trainings based on QPR (Question, Persuade,Refer), a proven suicide prevention intervention. “Our staff plays an important role in the lives of our students,” said Superintendent Ryan Noss. “Increased awareness of the warning signs of mental health issues is a critical way that our district will support kids. I am pleased that so many of our staff participated in this training and are learning to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help.” Other professional development sessions included training on the roll out of Google Chromebooks in high school classrooms, mandatory safety trainings, and curriculum planning sessions.

The district office and all schools will be closed Monday, September 3 for the Labor Day Holiday.

On September 4, the district office will resume regular hours of 8 am to 5 pm and schools will follow summer hour schedules. The first day of school for students is Wednesday, September 5.
