Graduation Rates Released

The 2015-16 graduation rate data released from ODE shows that our overall graduation rate was 82% compared to the state average of 74.8%.  We are especially proud that our graduation rates for Hispanic students have increased from 56.9% in 2011 to 87.5% in 2016.  The district’s five-year cohort “completer” rate remained the same as last year at 92.8%, while the statewide rate is 81.9%.  Completers are students who earned a regular or modified diploma (as well as those who earned an extended diploma, adult high school diploma, or GED) within five years.

Notes Superintendent Ryan Noss, “I am pleased to report that more of our students are staying in school; the dropout rate has decreased from 2.12% in 2014-15 to less than 1% in 2015-16.  A big thank you goes to our high school staff, who continue to seek new ways to remove barriers and help students stay engaged in school.”

This year, new data is being reported on Career & Technical Education (CTE) concentrators, which are students who earned one or more credits in technical skill-based courses as part of a state-approved CTE program.  Corvallis’ 208 CTE concentrators had a graduation rate of 89.4% in 2015-16.

Corvallis graduation rates are showing a stair step of improvement with a 70% average for the period 2010-11 to 2012-13, and an 84% average for 2013-14 to 2015-16.  According to Superintendent Noss, “We are now at a “new normal,” which gives us a starting point for continued innovation.  Our work is to thoughtfully address the question, What will it take to make the next leap past a 90% four year graduation rate?  I believe that we are capable of getting there and giving all students the best possible chance for success in school and life; it comes down to continued personalization and addressing the barriers facing individual learners. We have set the bar high and we expect positive outcomes for every student.”

Special thanks to community donors who gave to the Corvallis Public Schools Foundation providing funding for targeted supports for students.
