Interim Board Member Selected

The Corvallis School Board conducted an application process and four individuals submitted a letter of interest. All candidates attended the September 27 school board meeting to participate in the public selection process and a round of questions and answers. School Board chair Vince Adams thanked all applicants and noted his appreciation of their willingness to serve.

All applicants had an opportunity to answer questions from board members and the top two were selected for additional questions. After several rounds of questions and answers, the board voted unanimously to select Loren Chavarría for the position. Welcome to our newest school board member!

When asked what she felt was missing from the board and what she would be bringing to the board, Ms. Chavarría  noted that she would provide “firsthand knowledge of what it means to be an immigrant in the U.S. and in Corvallis.” She also represents bilingual families and has personal experience of the opportunities and barriers facing students impacted by DACA. The interim term runs September 27, 2018 through June 30, 2019.

Other business at the board meeting included a farewell to outgoing board member Judy Ball and a presentation of the Elementary Educational Specifications that will inform the upcoming bond projects.  The board had an opportunity for questions and answers with representatives from DLR Group and Facilities Director, Kim Patten.
