Mental Health Support for Students

The safety and well-being of Corvallis students is one of our highest priorities. As we prepare for the winter break from the structure and routine of the school day, we would like to let families know about local resources for mental health support.

The Corvallis School District has partnered with Trillium Family Services and the Boys & Girls Club of Corvallis to offer prevention services the week of January 2-5. The hours will be 11 am – 4 pm Tuesday through Thursday and 11 am – 1 pm on Friday. Students can drop-in and meet with a qualified mental health professional free of charge and no appointment is necessary.

Additionally, several agencies in our region have teamed up to provide the free MHU: Mental Health & You app for Apple and Android smart phones. The app offers a wealth of information for those suffering mental health issues and their loved ones. This resource was championed by Caroline Fisher, MD, vice-president and chair of Samaritan Mental Health. In January, the app will be shared throughout the district via middle and high school student devices. This will provide students with immediate access to mental health resources.

Features of the app include:

• Direct crisis hotline – every screen on the app offers direct access to local crisis hotlines, including the Benton County Crisis 24 Hour Hotline (888)232-7192.
• Resource center – an interactive directory of agencies that can help
• FAQs – answers to common questions asked by families and friends of people affected by mental illness

Have a safe, happy, and healthy winter break!
