New Sustainability Specialist Announced

Bailey Payne has been hired as the District’s new Sustainability Specialist. Mr. Payne is tasked with championing the District’s recently completed Sustainability Management Plan and working collaboratively with staff and community members to implement projects in a number of action areas. He reports to Assistant Superintendent Melissa Harder and started work on August 1.

Mr. Payne holds a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and has served as a Waste Reduction Coordinator for Marion County since 2002. In that position he also was the regional coordinator for Oregon Green Schools for about 60 schools in Marion County.

From 2009 – 2018 he was a board member of the Oregon Green Schools Association and served as co-chair for two years. He is a successful grant-writer and recipient of a number of environmental project grants for school-based programs. He is fluent in English and Spanish, and has extensive volunteer experience in our District.

Bailey is well connected in our community and has the experience we need to engage our staff, students, and community in this work.”
