April 9: Road Closures and Delays Due to Flooding

We are monitoring flood conditions throughout the district. If your student’s bus stop is impacted by flooding, you will receive a phone call from First Student regarding alternate accommodations.

In the event of the decision to delay school tomorrow due to road closures, families will be notified with an auto-dial phone notification typically at 6:00 am. Anyone may subscribe to FlashAlert a free notification service with an app available for iOS and Android phones. https://www.flashalert.net/signup/

If there is a delayed start

  • School starts two hours later than regularly scheduled
  • Bus routes will run two hours later than regularly scheduled
  • Before-school programs are cancelled
  • Buses may be on modified routes

Updates are posted hourly if there are changes in conditions: https://www.co.benton.or.us/boc/page/high-water-updates

The safety of students and staff is our primary concern. Safety considerations include student drivers, student access to bus stops, students walking to and from school, and all other aspects of transporting students to and from school and the suitability of our facilities for occupation, as well as the condition of local infrastructure.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to make transportation and attendance decisions for their child(ren) based on their own assessment of travel conditions at their location.

If you have any questions about inclement weather communications, please send an email to communications@corvallis.k12.or.us.

Tuesday, April 9, 5:30 pm update

A message from Benton County Emergency Management:

The Willamette River is projected to continue to rise throughout the evening and into the morning.  It is currently projected to crest at 31.5 feet tomorrow (Wednesday) around noon. This level is similar to the 1996 Flood. As a result, travelers should expect lane closures and traffic changes at the OR 34/U.S. 20 intersection in Corvallis due to flooding on the road. Currently eastbound lanes on Hwy 34, 1 mile east of Corvallis, are closed. The intersection may be closed entirely as water continues to rise overnight. Avoid the area if possible. Expect delays and watch for crews.

As a reminder, please do NOT cross flood waters (turn around don’t drown), and do not play in flood water. There is lots of debris being washed down and sewer covers may be move around during flood conditions. Keep yourself safe and plan ahead for delayed travel times.
