School Board Adopts Five-Year Goals; Gender Inclusive Policy

At their December 13, 2018 meeting, the Corvallis School Board unanimously adopted their 2018-2023 Board Goals. Student achievement, equitable systems, real-world learning, health and wellness, and long range facilities planning at the five goal areas. The goals document is available HERE.

At the same meeting, the Corvallis School Board unanimously approved Policy JBC – Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Students – Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity. The policy addresses particular issues of importance for transgender and gender nonconforming students. Nearly all District schools at all levels – elementary to high school – are already supporting transgender students that they know about without a formal policy foundation.

Policy JBC established some formal protections for students in areas such as student chosen names and pronouns, privacy and confidentiality about gender identity, school facilities that are gender inclusive, and professional development for staff.

Several amendments to the draft policy were made before final approval. The final policy is available HERE.
