Shared with the Corvallis School Board during the November 18, 2021 meeting

Background

At its October 14, 2021 meeting, the Corvallis School Board gave the Superintendent several directives relating to COVID-19 vaccinations. Following is the work done to-date as well as the next steps for the directives.

RecommendationUpdate(s)
1. Conduct community engagement by gathering feedback and information on vaccine hesitancy among vulnerable populations with low vaccination rates.
  • November 9, 2021 – Benton County Health Department and Corvallis School District co-hosted a vaccine information event and resource fair at Linus Pauling as an outreach for families from Guatemala.
  • Next step is to reach out to our faith-based communities.
2. Work alongside the Benton County Health Department to engage with communities of color to create greater confidence in the COVID-19 vaccine and increase vaccination rates among our racially and linguistically diverse families.
  • Vaccine Outreach Team meet every 2 weeks to review data and make decisions on outreach efforts.
  • Communication with the broader CSD community to access pediatric vaccination through their providers offices.
  • Health Navigators and Family Liaisons are connecting families with their providers when available.
3. Continue to provide updated data and information on COVID-19 vaccination rates among CSD students to the Board.
  • Benton County Epidemiologist provides disaggregated (grouped) data updated every 2 weeks.
  • Also provides district staff with trend data to measure the impact of outreach.
4. Report to the board on planning and actions related to the vaccination rate changes in our communities of color.
  • Board updates will continue.
