Temporary Modular Classrooms at Linus Pauling

To accommodate a short-term increase in enrollment at Linus Pauling Middle School, two temporary modular buildings have been located on the school campus providing four additional classrooms. There will be an aluminum landing between the units, a ramp down to the sidewalk, and a new raised pedestrian walkway for safe access to the modular buildings.

The temporary classrooms at Linus Pauling are not part of the bond program and not paid for with bond funds. The District has signed a two-year lease agreement. New fencing will also be installed on the Linus Pauling campus this fall to provide secure outdoor areas during school hours. The driveway to the west of the school building will continue to be used for bus access through the campus.

Didn’t we vote to remove all modulars with the facilities bond?

  • The facilities bond projects will add permanent classrooms and remove modular buildings in K-5 schools.
  • With our current school boundaries, we have more elementary schools feeding into one high school, resulting in an imbalance in middle and high school enrollments.
  • To balance enrollment, the District conducted a boundary review process that concluded in early 2020. At the March 5, 2020 school board meeting, Superintendent Noss recommended a boundary change for Jaguar Elementary School and we anticipated board action on April 9. The school board tabled the discussion due to the timing of the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown. Corvallis School District boundary areas will remain the same until the Corvallis School Board takes the boundary adjustment topic up again.
  • Following COVID-related enrollment shifts in the 2020-21 school year, district leaders are continuing to assess middle and high school capacity and student enrollment trends.
