Update on Water Testing in all Schools

The Corvallis School District is contracting with Analytical Laboratory Group, Inc., an independent certified laboratory, to complete comprehensive testing for lead levels in drinking water district-wide.

Results for all elementary schools have been received and show elevated lead levels in some sample locations at all schools. Staff have taken immediate action to eliminate access to the affected sample locations. Additional information about affected sample locations is here and general information about drinking water safety is available here.

All water fixtures for drinking and food preparation were tested, following the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) testing guidelines. When elevated lead levels are found, steps are immediately taken to address the cause and provide a safe environment for students and staff including:

  • Turn off water and post signage at affected fixture.
  • Identify and eliminate the source of the lead.
  • Retest the water to ensure it is safe for students and staff.
  • Notify parents, students, staff, and community of actions completed.

We will continue to communicate with parents, students and staff and update the district website with test results and actions taken. Questions may be directed to Kim Patten, CSD Director of Facilities and Transportation at 541-757-5877.
