Bond will complete needed projects at all schools and replace Lincoln and Hoover Elementary Schools

The Corvallis School District’s $199 million capital construction bond (Measure 2-113) has passed, with a 68 percent* “yes” votes in yesterday’s election (*results as of partial returns).

The bond’s passage means that work will begin immediately to prepare for the bond sale and for the detailed planning and implementation of projects, which will include safety and security enhancements, existing infrastructure updates, and career-related program expansions, as well as new construction to replace Lincoln and Hoover Elementary Schools and to replace 21 elementary portables with permanent classrooms.

All projects identified in the bond program are planned to be completed within 5 years. The bond had widespread support and no organized opposition, yet district leadership took nothing for granted. The district has a history of strong support for public education in Corvallis. “We are grateful for voter support of this bond measure. Our process for the bond began more than two years ago and we worked hard to share information as broadly as possible to answer any questions people had in advance of election day,” shared Superintendent Ryan Noss. “I am deeply grateful to everyone who participated in the campaign and to voters for approving our bond measure. Our public schools are a treasure in our community and our students are fortunate to grow up in a community that chooses to invest in the future.”

The political action committee “Yes for Better Schools,” chaired by community volunteer Curtis Wright, undertook a variety of activities this spring to share information and advocate for the bond. They staffed a booth at the Corvallis Farmers Market, developed a website and social media presence, and conducted a mailing and door-knocking campaign to raise awareness and encourage people to vote for the bond.

A bond oversight committee will be convened to monitor the planned improvements, schedule and progress of the bond program. Additional information about the committee, including an application for those interested in participating, will be published on the district website in the coming weeks.
