Reimagining and Renovating our School Facilities

The facilities long range planning process has been full steam ahead since early this year and October was a month full of community information nights and listening sessions with staff and community members.  Outreach activities with documented feedback included the following:

  • Community Information Nights held at all 13 school sites from October 2 – 25
  • Sustainability Eco-Charrette held at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library on October 7
  • CSD staff meetings

Two additional community meetings are planned to gather feedback. We will follow-up with a second sustainability related meeting on Monday, November 20 from 3-6 pm at the Western View Center for more discussion about sustainability priorities for the facilities plan. We will also host a Community Information Night in Spanish on November 6 at 6 pm at Garfield Elementary. Both meetings are open to the public.

The Facilities Planning Committee will reconvene on November 8 to review and discuss results of telephone polling and meetings held at all school locations. More than 500 comments were recorded and categorized into general themes.  A predominant concern in our community is that schools are safe and that we have adequate capacity for possible increases in enrollment. We are grateful for the participation in the community meetings and the hundreds of thoughtful comments and ideas.  As the committee continues to shape the final facilities plan, community members may stay engaged with this process by attending one of the meetings noted above, committee meetings, or by providing public testimony with comments about the plan at the November 16 or December 7 school board meeting. Follow these guidelines when planning to provide public input at a board meeting.

Background information about the process is available on the Facilities Planning Committee Workshops page. There you will find meeting agendas and materials for all meetings including the upcoming meetings on November 8 and 28.
