Bond Program Update: Architect Selection Process

The district is working closely with the project management team from Wenaha Group to facilitate the architect selection process for bond projects totaling $199.9 million.

The architect selection process formally began on July 16, 2018 with the issuance of a Request for Proposals for architectural services. At a mandatory pre-proposal meeting, held on July 20, fifteen architecture firms were represented at the standing room only session. “We were pleased with the level of interest in the CSD bond projects,” said Wenaha Bond Program Manager Dale Kuykendall. “The district received a total of 11 proposals from firms throughout the region by the August 2 deadline and we have a number of very experienced and excellent firms that we will be reviewing.”

In addition to sharing the firm’s background and K-12 experience, all applicants were required to address community involvement and outreach, design approach, and sustainability and alternative energy program experience. They were also asked how they would incorporate the district’s core values for educational design in the process. A selection committee comprised of district and Wenaha project management staff reviewed and scored all proposals and provided recommendations for interviews. Based on that work, six firms have been invited to an interview.

“We are including community perspective in the architect services selection process,” according to Kim Patten, Facilities and Transportation Director.  In addition to a question and answer period, we have asked the invited applicants to lead a discussion session with a community stakeholder group so we can observe their facilitation style. We want to find the right fit that aligns with our community’s expectations about community engagement.”  The district has the option to select one, two or three firms for the various bond design packages.

Evening meetings will take place August 13, 14, and 15 from 4 – 8 pm at the Western View Center. School district staff have been contacting a cross-section of individuals to attend one, two, or three of the meetings.
