Volunteer

In today’s schools, there are far more jobs and responsibilities than there are people to do them. By helping with special events and routine tasks, volunteers allow teachers and staff to really focus on helping children learn and grow. Volunteers allow our schools to offer children and families more services.

Getting Involved

If you are interested in volunteering in our school district, we encourage you to contact the school of your choice to see what opportunities are available. To learn more about individual school activities, please contact individual schools.

Find the directory of schools here.

A background check is required for all volunteers in the Corvallis School District. Volunteer applicants must have a background check cleared before they can volunteer. Please allow three weeks for notification that your application has been approved.

*District employees who plan to volunteer must also complete the application. In the “Skills,Hobbies,Comments, Questions” box, please note that you are a district employee and note the number of years you have been an employee with the district. If you have questions, please contact your school office manager.

Some examples of volunteering are:

  • Share your specialized skills in classrooms or with student clubs
  • Assist with playground or lunchroom monitoring
  • Assist students in the high school Career Centers
  • Supervise safety patrol teams before and after school
  • Get involved through the parent/teacher organization
  • Assist with coaching an athletic team

Background checks are good for two years. The school year in which you apply counts as one full year.

Parent Organizations, Activities, and Athletics

Parent Organizations

Most schools have an active parent organization that relies on volunteers to carry out its mission of supporting the students and staff at their school.  Volunteers assist with community building activities such as back to school barbecues, school carnivals, science fairs and book fairs; coordinating staff appreciation activities; and organizing and promoting school fundraisers, including Dine-Out events at local restaurants. Contact the school office to get connected.

Activities and Athletics

Volunteers make important contributions to district activities and athletic teams.

In addition to the required background check, coaches must have a current First Aid and CPR card on file. Please contact the Athletic Secretary at your school to sign up for the school district training opportunities. Coaches may also be required to complete additional training such as, but not limited to, epinephrine, non-injectable medications, and glucagon. The school’s Athletic Secretary will inform you if you must complete any additional training.
