Personalized Student Support
With the implementation of the Common Core Standards in 2012, teachers are provided with a set of specific standards on which to base curriculum and assessments. These standards provide a blueprint for what every student needs to learn and understand in order to show proficiency to be successful upon graduation.
Proficiency is a way to benchmark what students know on an on-going basis so we can be assured that students are learning and instruction can be adjusted as needed. Our teachers continuously respond to the following questions and prescribed actions.
What do we want students to know and be able to do?
Content standards identified for us by the State Standards, Common Core, or National and Industry standards.
How will we know if they know it?
Proficiency benchmarks are an expectation of students’ mastery of a standard. Students must show mastery of a standard to show proficiency. However, levels of proficiency can be looked at as a continuum. Which leads us to the next question.
What do we do if they don’t?
Response to Instruction which is the process of reviewing the proficiency benchmarks and identifying what a student needs to meet or exceed the standards. It is all about growth and specific, targeted instruction.
What will we do if they already know it?
Response to Instruction and enrichment opportunities.
We have aligned best practices in instructional strategies, curriculum, and digital tools for our 21st learners. These tools help us create a student-centered learning environment, where students have a world of information at their fingertips.
